Our red puppies are lovely and mature very nicely. Red is  a true colour of  Labrador, many breeders bred out the rich dark red colour to become a yellow or white.  All shades are considered to be yellow in the CKC world.
Many of our customers who love black or yellow also love the red!

History of the Fox Red Labrador Retriever

Ben of Hyde: First ever yellow lab

Ben of Hyde, registered in 1899 and seen in the photograph to the left, shows he’s a relatively dark color and until the 1940s, this was certainly the norm.

However, through the mid to late 1900s, lighter shades of yellow and cream became more fashionable and breeders sought to selectively breed for these colors.

Fox Red is not a individual color of Labrador retriever but is really a shade of yellow. Ben of Hyde was the first recognized yellow Labrador retriever born in the year 1899. He and other early yellow labs were dark golden or more accurately described as a ‘Butterscotch’ tinged with red shade. Their color was in fact labeled Golden until the British Kennel Club came to register and recognize them in 1903, and later the American Kennel Club in 1917. At this time Gold was not distinguished as a color and so it was changed to yellow. Over the course of the last century the lighter shades of yellow Labrador have triumphed over the original ‘butterscotch’, especially after WWII.

The Fox Red Labrador isn’t a separately recognized color by the major kennel clubs around the world. It’s just one of the somewhat wide variation in shades of Yellow Labrador available.

They are a genuine, pure bred Labrador, with a history going back to the earliest days of the breed.

In the 1980’s the Fox Red shade of yellow were re-established by two English breeders

Pictured here is our English Labrador sire Chase who we were able to purchase and he has given us some of our most beautiful red puppies, both inside and out!

This is 3 year old Marley

Good morning, Betty Ann

Today, three years ago, our beautiful Marley was born and in September she came home to live with us. In her three years, she has become a superstar in our family and increasingly in the Rally O world as well as in the winter mushing and skijoring world.
In the mushing world she is now nicknamed “the Chocolate Rocket”. She is a dog of strength and determination. She is focussed and hard driving. Her stamina and her structure are beautiful to look at and watch. She has remained a lab on the smaller size and her coat and colouring are stunning.
In this past year she has entered into Rally Obedience trials twice and has qualified each time. We have two blue ribbons and will try for a third in October. I am so very proud of her. Our original goal was for her to become a therapy dog and to that end, she passed her temperament and basic obedience tests. In October she is going to Dryden to (hopefully) earn her CGN (Canine Good Citizenship).
This little doggy is the delight of our grand daughter who is the same age as her. They are beautiful together and find joy in each other’s company.
As for us, her ‘mom and dad’, she forces us to stay active. We have her out for 45 minute run four days a week and the other three days she spends with our trainer out in the country swimming and roaming with four other dogs….her buddies.
We have experienced so much joy, laughter and love with her and once again, I am sending you our gratitude for the incredible breeding of labs.
We feel truly blessed that our Covid puppy has become such a source of joy and pride in our senior years.
I hope you are well and that you and your family continue to produce labs of such high quality.
Sincerely

Liz and Julian

Chocolate Male (sold) Rosco is now living in his new home with Spencer from our Chase and Pearl.

Thank-you Eugene and Andreena, I know he will live the dream of a wonderful life with you!

This is Archway’s Rosco! He’s a handsome 1 year old chocolate male with a short, smooth coat and athletic build.
Rosco is dear to us, and we’re sure you’ll also quickly fall in love with his sweet, gentle and intelligent demeanour.
Contact us if you are interested in meeting Rosco!

On a side note, Transitioning our lovely Rosco into a new home should be quite easy as he has lived with a family for a little while. Rosco was brought back to us because one of the family members became unwell and they could no longer have this sweet boy. They were truly heart broken but we are so happy that they were looking out for what would be best for Rosco.
